What May Brings

The sun was warm but the wind was chill.
You know how it is with an April day.
When the sun is out and the wind is still,
You’re one month on in the middle of May.
But if you so much as dare to speak,
a cloud come over the sunlit arch,
And wind comes off a frozen peak,
And you’re two months back in the middle of March.”
–  Robert Frost

I feel this poem reflects how quickly time passes. It seems as though it was just last week that we were talking about New Year’s goals. Each month I have spent time reviewing my goals, updating and adding new ones. I have found this to keep me on task and even challenge me to new heights. I want to thank you dear readers for encouraging and reading along.

As I peek into May I get a glimpse of a busy and diverse month. In our family May has more birthday’s than any other. We will celebrate the births of my son, brother, niece, nephew and our granddaughter. I expect this will bring a few photo opportunities as we take Piper to the circus and for her first carousel ride.

My husband has picked up the planks to build two raised beds that I intend to grow some vegetables in. More photo opportunities here.

We will be honoring the mother’s of our two soon to be born grandchildren at a baby shower. Yet more photo’s.

I plan to honor my chosen profession of nursing this month as we celebrate Nurse’s week from May 6-12th. I hope to bring a couple of guest posts as well as a few posts of my own.

The Foodies also have tentative plans for a late May gathering to kick-off summer. You can check out our other adventures on the newly created Foodie page. I think I will begin to add recipes our favorite prepared dishes.

Finally, at least for now are our plans to travel to the Delaware Water Gap next weekend to take part in a digital photography course. I have high expectations for this weekend. I am sure I will have marvelous things to share when I return.

Above is a photo in our backyard last weekend. The colors are popping out all over the place.

What plans do you have for the month of May?

Looking back helps to keep forward moving…

Well as this weeks draws to a close a new month arrived on the calendar. Yesterday’s post took on a life form I did not expect and am hopeful that a few of you will create posts throughout the month celebrating women in history. My plan is to write at least one a week with an eye toward highlighting different areas of excellence each week.

Today my plan is to complete a quick review of the past months accomplishments, some of which were planned some came as a surprise. And align with this months objectives.

~ I began riding the Easy Street van. This is a major blessing in my life as it has allowed me to regain 2 hours a day while someone else does the driving. Not to mention I am doing my part to decrease the carbon footprint.

~ You would think with the extra time I would have accomplished more toward my reading goal. I have only completed one book this month. I have been reading some of the magazines I subscribe to on the van. I also use it to read and comment on many of the blogs I follow.

~ We had a wonderful Foodie Night and I learned how to make Fondue. We also experienced several new and some old favorite places to eat. My personal favorite would be the Golden Chopstick in Westerly RI where I had Dim Sum for the first time. Wonderful!

~I managed to keep my home office organized. Kudos to me for this accomplishment…so easy to let this fall off.

~I tried several new methods of organizing at work. This is a constant evolution as the role is new and there is NOT a software program to help track the many patients that I am working with on an ongoing basis. This really causes me to be creative, flexible and constantly trying new things.

~ I have begun planning for a new ministry that I mentioned last month. I want to start a support group for women who have undergone cancer treatment. More to come on this.

~ I have begun to actively build my Twitter account. This helps with the goal above.

~ I bought a new Canon DSLR camera and have begun to experiment with it. My photography class is requiring stretching and growth to complete the assignments. God is at eye level

~ I have written almost 60 posts since the creation of Authentic Me and have almost reached 3000 hits. Thanks to all my readers. I am considering a second blog that will focus primarily on issues pertaining to health. Stay tuned.

~ I continue to volunteer for Dress For Success. In February we hosted our Tiara Tuesday event at this place called the Russian Lady in downtown Hartford. Great spot with old, eclectic furnishings. Went back last night with friends. I completed the coaches training. Now I can be matched up with underserved women who are trying to enter into the workplace and help them achieve their goals. Very excited.

~ I guess finally I will mention that I applied and was accepted to spend a week this July at Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall camp. I will be volunteering for a week when kids with sickle cell disease are there.

Well that is all I have to say at the moment. The movie is cued up and my wonderful husband is waiting. As always thanks for reading.

Have a wonderful week. Happy blogging.

A Quick Inventory

What’s new?                                 february

Turned a page on the calendar to reveal a new month. February has taken the stage. A quick inventory of my goals, projects, ideas, drumroll please…looks as though January was a successful month(these are not listed in order of importance).

I managed to get the home office cleaned out of unnecessary 2011 papers AND maintain the organization for a month.

Several new recipes have been created in the kitchen, all with accolades from the partakers. I have started to create a menu and shopping list in anticipation of the upcoming week.

Spent many hours in quiet reflection seeking direction and wisdom for the year. This has given me inspiration for a new personal ministry which I will be pursuing over the next 11 months.

My husband’s new business has launched successfully AND he is now taking a paycheck…woot woot!

I volunteered at my first Tiara Tuesday event for the organization Dress for Success.

Read 3 books toward my annual goal of 20.

Ok those are the highlights, pretty good I think.

What’s new for this month?

Well today I trialed a commuter van. My daily commute is 47 miles each way which takes me no less than an hour door to door. I drive a Prius so I feel I do my part to conserve but the drive is very tiring. There have been some real parking challenges where I work creating a major push for creative commuting. Easy Street is the non-profit van service for commuters. So this morning I drove to a local commuter lot, parked my car and got into a van with a bunch of strangers and headed off to the Insurance City for work. I will admit I was a little nervous. But this soon faded. I sat in comfort and read a book as I was driven to and from work. This is great. I am sold. I just gained 2 hours a day! EASYSTREET_VAN_1

Tomorrow I will begin a class that has interested me for some months now. One of my budding areas of interest discovered on my journey to authenticity is photography. I hope to invest in my own camera in a few month with the money I am saving now that my husband is collecting a paycheck again. Healing though Photography using a book called God Is at Eye Level will help me explore my world behind the lens and require continued stretching outside my comfort zone. God is at eye level

I hope to post some of my assignments as I progress.

I know of a few other stretching exercises I will undergo in the next few weeks but the hour is getting late and my eyes are tired. So until next time…
